Exercise HIGHLAND GOOSE
Scotland (Kildonan)
16 May - 2 June 1987
Originally constructed in July 1986 by the Edinburgh Herriott and Watt University Officer Training Corps, the bridge was blown down in the sotrms of October 1986. The Military Aid to the Civil Community task was to reconstruct a 40 metre timber suspension bridge designed by 62 CRE(Works) with associated riverbank protection from Gabion Matresses and Baskets. The task was split into 2 phases. Phase 1 say the advance party depart on 13 May 1987 and arrive 15 May 1987 with all troop vehicles and equipment. Phase 2 saw the Main Body travel by coach departing on 17 May 1987 and arrive early 18 May 1987.
Resources Troop were predominantly the Military Works Force:
Project Officer = Captain T C Stuart
Clerk of Works (Construction) = Staff Sergeant R A Miles.
Troop Senior Non-Commission Officer = Staff Sergeant R G Greep.
Site Non-Commissioned Officer = Sergeant C Scarisbrick.
Other key personalities were:
Commanding Officer = Lieutenant Colonel R A Bradbury.
Officer Commanding = Major D C Bowen
Bridge Designer = Major G C Kershaw.
CRE (Scotland) = Major A Boyd.
The handover certificate was signed by Mr S McNaughton, the Roads Engineer of the Highland Regional Council.
